What is somatic bodywork?

Somatic bodywork is a body-based approach that helps you notice and work with patterns of tension, movement, posture, and sensation. Rather than treating the body as separate parts, somatic bodywork looks at how the whole person is organized.

Who somatic bodywork
can support

SPRE may be a good fit for people who are experiencing:

  • chronic tension or recurring pain

  • stress-related physical symptoms

  • posture or movement patterns that feel hard to change

  • a sense of disconnection from the body

  • physical holding patterns related to old stress or trauma

  • discomfort that has not fully resolved through massage, exercise, or talk therapy alone

  • curiosity about how fascia, movement, structure, and the nervous system work together

This work is not about forcing change. It is about listening carefully, working at the pace of the body, and supporting more choice, awareness, and ease.

How SPRE is different
from massage

SPRE Bodywork is not traditional massage. Sessions are fully clothed and do not use oil or spa-style massage techniques.

Instead, SPRE uses a somatic, relational, and educational approach. The work may include attuned touch, movement, dialogue, and attention to patterns in the connective tissue and nervous system. The goal is not only short-term relief, but a deeper understanding of how your body is organized and what may be possible from there.

What happens in a SPRE session?

A SPRE session takes place in a private room at Studio Evolve in Wallingford. You remain fully clothed throughout the session.

Sessions often begin with seated conversation so your practitioner can understand what brings you in, what you are noticing, and what your body may be asking for. From there, the session may move to the bodywork table, where your practitioner uses attuned, attentive touch and guided awareness to support the body’s natural ability to reorganize.

The work is collaborative. You are not expected to perform, push through, or explain everything perfectly. The session is paced with care and consent.
